Instead of conventional heads, I choose to paint birdhouses. In the birdhouse motif I explore the concept of the human head being a space where ideas fly in and out, birds being the ideas. Different birds represent the different characteristics of a thought. Small, large, colorful, flightless, loud, aggressive etc.. Any giving day you can have many ideas flying in and out, or sometimes none at all just like the birdhouse. Ideas are the reason we progress and regress as a species. Since it all comes from an idea. Airplanes, Spraycans, music instruments, iPhones, weapons, democracy etc. We were all once just an idea. My grandmother once told me that "In everyones head there is a different universe." and so in every birdhouse there is a different universe waiting to be inhabited.
My choice to replace ideas with birds is rooted in the notion that birds represent symbols of dreams, imagination and the unconscious. Birds are not confined by physical barriers and can migrate beyond the compass of unknown territories and perspectives. By incorporating birds into my pieces, I hope to convey the message that the mind is capable of limitless exploration and that our imagination can take us to places we've never been before, both beneficial and detrimental. Serving as ways for individuals to explore and understand their inner selves.
In my work, I strive to capture the elusive nature of the mind, the emotion of home, and the transformative power of our thoughts and ideas. I invite the viewer to consider the power of ideas and to contemplate the ways in which they shape our lives and our world.
